Falling Leaves and Autumn Trees

Autumn always brings a swift chill to nature's landscape. The air has a calm sweetness, and the trees are covered in shades of gold and auburn.

Cinnamon and apples aroma cafes, and pumpkins grow in glory in the farmer's fields.

Scarves tuck themselves around those we love as the leaves gently release into earth's awaiting hands.

The calm before the storm, the soft chill before the great one awaiting. The early frost that glazes the grass before the first snow.

Autumn moons shower the evening in amber gold light, as the days rest early.

''In the hazy days at summer's end

When the air's still warm and the green near spent

When the days grow short and the evenings tall

Then you feel in a whisper, Fall.''

-Laura Jaworski

Autumn is serenity,

an old soul's passage

to deep dreams. -Angie Weiland-Crosby

Time too dim the sunlight,

cue the moody fog,

& watch nature's most

haunting story unfold.

-Angie Weiland-Crosby

I like misty autumn mornings,

and cold snowy winter nights.

Rainstorms bring me innerpeace,

thunder sets my soul alight.

I care not for summer,

days too long, the heavy heat.

Give me candlelight evenings,

early darkness, a silent street.

-N.C.

''Autumn's gold has fallen

It rests upon the floor

A garment laid about the wood

That once the fair trees wore

But still the leaves are treasure

Held fondly by the earth

For every mote in nature's keep

Is infinite in worth.''

-Laura Jaworski

Fall, leaves, fall; die, flowers, away;

Lengthen night and shorten day;

Every leaf speaks bliss to me

Fluttering from the autumn tree.

I shall smile when wreaths of snow

Blossom where the rose should grow;

I shall sing when night's decay

Ushers in a drearier day.

-Emily Bronte

The Leaving Time

Silently undone, leaves fall

to lie on frozen ground

where bright hues slowly fade

to a dull and wrinkled brown.

Leaves lie bleak and unaware

of the energy they leave behind

to nourish the flora of coming spring

and uplifting ambiance they will bring.

-Ellen Elizabeth Stout

...a distinct smell...

a mixture of the dried

leaves on the ground

and the smoke

from the chimneys

and the sweet ripe apples...

-Arlene Stafford Wilson-

It was a lovely afternoon-

such an afternoon as only

September can produce

when summer has stolen back

for one more day of

dream and glamour.

-L.M. Montgomery

Autumn Twilight

The long September evening dies

In mist along the fields and lanes;

Only a few faint stars surprise

The lingering twilights as it wanes.

-Arthur Symons

''Autumn approaches and the heart begins to dream-''

-Basho

Autumn is nature's prune. The carving of a new tree, rebirth, a season of rejoice in the promise of future growth. Embrace the fall, and the leaves passing by. For even as things change, wilt, and end, they will become something beautiful once more when the season is right.
